Sonja Barnard
Sonja Barnard
Sonja graduated in 1993 with Diploma in Fine Arts, her courses included painting, printmaking, art history & ceramics. Sonja regularly attends Pearson Collage summer school of art, to further her skills in sculptural ceramics.
Most of Sonja's work is individually sculpted from stoneware or paper clay, using various hand building techniques. New works in process are wall light sconces, & masks. Sonja's main body of work, the "tide pools", nature shrines, mermaids, sprites (nature spirits), are inspired by a sense of interconnectedness & sacred space one feels when by the majestic forests & sea.Dreams, mythology, & patterns in nature are of a universal & timeless dimension, the underlying inspiration to her work.
