Sequoia Miller’s work explores his unique balance of functional tradition and Individual expression. For this workshop he will focus on wheel-thrown and altered forms. He'll start off by throwing several cups, bowls, plates, jars and pouring forms. Then as the clay dries he'll alter and assemble the pots. He'll cover techniques such as wet faceting, throwing bottomless forms, and getting altered lids to fit. He'll also show a few ways of scraping and shaving the surface of the pots to achieve a crisp and subtle angularity. Sequoia will also discuss his approaches to glazing and will glaze a couple of pots to demonstrate his core techniques.

Spring Show and Sale 2010
For more information contact Salt Spring Show
May 7th and 8th, 2010
Opening May 7th 5-8 pm Show and Sale Saturday May 8th 10am-4 pm
Mahon Hall, 114 Rainbow Road, Salt Spring Island
Our Annual Spring show and sale is a wonderful opportunity to see new works from our new, emerging, established and award winning members. We have an exceptional group of functional and sculptural potters on the island and each year this show and sale brings several of our members and a special guest artist all under one roof for your viewing and buying pleasure. On stage works are exhibited by members who show primarily in galleries, who make large sculptural work and pieces or series of works that hangs on the wall. Table displays of functional, unusual and some sculptural work make up the rest of the show on the floor. We offer patrons of the show an opportunity to win a member’s piece of work by holding a raffle draw each year during the show.
Annual Marks Work Warehouse Display
2010 Theme "Nesting"
July and August 2010
Marks Work Warehouse, 152 Fulford-Ganges Road, Salt Spring Island
Each year our members create sculptural and functional work related to a theme and display the work in the Marks Work Warehouse Window. This is a wonderful opportunity to view the diversity of our members work and see your favorite potter stretch in new directions. This year we have a very intriguing theme called “Nesting”. Imagine cruet, salt and pepper sets nestling together, or an old hen sitting on a nest or the fragility of a nest conveyed in clay. Who knows what we’ll come up with! Drop and and see the display anytime, it is on view 24 hours a day throughout the month of August. If a particular pieces catches your fancy, the Potters name will be on the list and you can either find their contact information in our member gallery on this website or ask Marks for a copy of our list. Enjoy the display!
