Claire delights in the process of creating sculptural and smoke fired ceramics.
Her mosaics are inspired from photographs of her Salt Spring home . Pieces are individually cut and reassembled and selectively fired to create gentle blushes and shadows.
Coil built vases are burnished and sacrificed to the fire. Her latest efforts explore ancient pit firing methods with her fellow fiery friends. In order to create these pieces there is a great risk of losing a lot in order to gain sometimes very little. But there is also the chance that one very special piece will speak to the observer. If it elicits a smile, an emotion, if it begs to be touched, then it is good.
